Style & Class

What’s in a Name?

Why did we choose the name Style & Class? It’s more than just a catchy name. It has ties to both the our creative side and our technical side, as the words style and class are both needed to build a website. Let’s Explain…

Style & Class

A website gets its personality from how you apply design attributes to different blocks of content on the page. These attributes can include the width, color, background, padding, margins, and so much more. The attributes are added to the code through the STYLE parameter which looks like this:

<p style="color:blue; background-color:white; padding:15px; border:1px solid lightgrey">

While using inline styles like this works perfectly fine, adding the same style to every HTML tag on a website would create bloated, slow-loading, and difficult to maintain web pages. So what do we do?

Instead of coding inline, we write all of our styles in a separate cascading style sheet, or CSS file, and give each style a CLASS that we can combine and reuse across every page.
<p class="blue-text white-box">
And on the CSS file:
.blue-text {color:blue;}
.white-box {background-color:white; padding:15px; border:1px solid lightgrey;}

That’s how we became Style & Class!

A name that appeals to both what we do and how we do it. Learn more about who we are, or drop us a line to see how we can put our experience and expertise to work for your business. We can’t wait to hear from you!
